App FAQ’s

  • How to listen to podcasts

    To listen to podcasts:

    1. Tap on the “Rewind” button at the bottom left of your screen. The podcast screen will appear

    2. Scroll through the list of podcasts and press the play icon next to your chosen podcast to listen to it.

    3. To search for a specific podcast, simply tap the magnifying glass icon at the top right of your screen. The search screen will appear.

    4. Tap the arrow to choose from a list of categories. Or tap the magnifying glass and type in your desired podcast.

    To share to podcasts:

    1. Follow step one above and locate the podcast you wish to share.
    2. Tap the sharable icon on the right side of the podcast.
    3. Choose the app in which you would like to share the podcast and send.
  • How to send a message
    To send a message in a conversation:
    1. Tap on the “Messages” tab in the navigation bar at the bottom of your screen.
    2. Locate the relevant conversation/channel and tap on it.
    3. At the bottom of your screen, you will see “Type a message.” Tap on it. Type your message. You can also send voice notes, images/videos, and documents in a conversation.
    4. When you are done, tap the arrow on the right side of your screen to send.
  • How to send a voice note

    To send a voice note in a conversation:

    1. Tap on the “Messages” tab in the navigation bar at the bottom of your screen.

    2. Locate the relevant conversation/channel and tap on it.

    3. At the bottom right of your screen, you will see a microphone icon.

    4. To begin recording, press and hold on the microphone icon.

    5. You will need to hold down the icon until you are done with your recording.

    6. When you release the icon, the voice note will automatically be sent to the conversation.

  • How to register on the app
    You will need to register on the app in order to send and receive messages, voice notes and images:
    1. Tap on the three bars at the top left side of your screen. This will open a menu. a. Tap the “Sign in” option. b. Enter in your mobile number (including the 0) and agree to the Terms and Conditions by checking the box. c. Tap the “Continue” button. d. A 6-digit number called an OTP (One Time Pin) will be sent to your cell phone as an SMS. This will either be filled in automatically by your device, or you will be required to fill it in manually in the underlined field provided. If you did not receive the OTP, follow these steps What should I do with a One Time Pin (OTP)? e. Tap on the “Confirm” button.
    You are now successfully registered on the app
  • What should I do with a One Time Pin (OTP)?
    An OTP, or One Time Pin, is a special pin that acts as a precaution against someone trying to access your app on a different device. It is a 6-digit number that our system will automatically generate and send via SMS to the cellphone number with which you registered. To ensure security, the number is only valid for 10 minutes, so you will need to complete your registration or sign-in process within that time. If your OTP does expire, you will need to request a new one by entering your cellphone number again.
    1. When registering a new account or signing back into the app, you will be required to enter in your cellphone number.
    2. For verification purposes, a One Time Pin (OTP) will be sent to the number you have provided.
    3. Once you receive the OTP, enter it into the underlined field provided.

  • How to activate push notifications
    To activate push notifications:
    1. Tap on the “Messages” tab in the navigation bar at the bottom of your screen.
    2. Locate the conversation/channel for which you would like to receive notifications and tap on the grey bell icon to the right. (You might need to give the app permission to send you notifications. If this is the case, tap “Allow” on the popup box that appears)
    3. Once the bell turns green, you will be able to receive push notifications for that channel.
  • How to disable push notifications
    To disable push notifications:
    1. Tap on the “Messages” tab in the navigation bar at the bottom of your screen.
    2. Locate the channel you would like to disable notifications for and tap on the green bell icon on the right side.
    3. A popup box will appear with the message “Are you sure you want to mute?” Tap the “Yes” button to confirm.
    4. Once the bell turns grey, your push notifications will be disabled for that channel.
  • How to join a channel/conversation
    To join a channel/conversation:
    1. Tap on the “Messages” tab in the navigation bar at the bottom of your screen.
    2. At the bottom of your screen, the channels(s) you have not joined yet will be greyed out.
    3. Locate your desired conversation and tap on the grey power icon on the right side.
    4. Once the power icon turns green, you will have access to that channel.
  • How to opt out of a conversation/channel
    To opt out of a conversation/channel:
    1. Tap on the “Messages” tab in the navigation bar at the bottom of your screen.
    2. Locate the conversation you would like to leave and tap on the green power icon on the right side.
    3. A confirmation box will pop up with the message “Are you sure you want to leave?.” Tap on the “Yes” button to confirm.
    4. Once the power icon turns grey, that channel will be greyed out.
    5. Here is how you can re-join a conversation and channel: How to join a channel/conversation.
     
  • How to start/stop the livestream.
    To start the livestream, simply tap on the play icon, which looks like a right arrow, at the bottom left of your screen. To stop the livestream, simply tap on the stop icon, which looks like a solid square, at the bottom left of your screen.
  • How to change your cellphone number
    If you have changed your phone number, please log out of your current profile and log back in with your new number. You will then follow the normal sign in process thereafter. For more details on that process, please view more information on How to register on the app.
  • How to edit/upload your profile picture
    To upload or edit your profile picture:
    1. Tap on the three bars at the top left of your screen. This will open a menu.
    2. Tap on the “My Profile” option.
    3. Tap on the picture next to your username. This will open your gallery.
    4. Select your desired picture and tap the tick at the top right of your screen.
    5. Once your profile picture is uploaded, tap the “Save” button on the top right.
  • How to edit your username
    To edit your username:
    1. Tap on the three bars at the top left of your screen. This will open a menu.
    2. Tap on the “My Profile” option.
    3. Tap on your username and edit as desired.
    4. When you are done, tap the “Save” button on the top right
  • How to update your email address
    To edit or upload your email address:
    1. Tap on the three bars at the top left of your screen. This will open a menu.
    2. Tap on the “My Profile” option.
    3. Locate the “Email” option.
    4. Type in your email address.
    5. Tap on the “Save” button on the top right.
  • How to change/upload your birthdate

    Your app’s brand owner has access to all the information that you upload in your profile. If the app’s profile section requests your birthdate, please refer to your app’s privacy policy for details on how your information is being protected. To edit or upload your birthdate:

    1. Tap on the three bars at the top left of your screen. This will open a menu.

    2. Tap on the “My Profile” option.

    3. Locate the “Date of Birth” option.

    4. Enter in your date of birth by selecting the appropriate date.

    5. Tap on the “Save” button on the top right.

  • How to delete your profile
    If you wish to suspend your profile, simply just sign out. You may sign back in at a later stage. If you wish to delete your profile completely, please follow these steps:
    1. Tap on the three bars at the top left side of your screen and select “Settings”.
    2. Tap on “Delete Account”.
    3. Tap on the “Delete Account” button again.
    Your account will now be deleted completely from Fabrik, and you will need to register again to sign back in.
  • How to send images/videos
    To send images or videos in a conversation:
    1. Tap on the “Messages” tab in the navigation bar at the bottom of your screen.
    2. Locate the relevant conversation and tap on it.
    3. At the bottom right of your screen, you will see a camera icon. Tap on it.
    4. Select the images or videos that you wish to send. (You might need to grant the app permission to access your media. If this is the case, tap “Allow” on the popup box that appears).
    5. You can add a caption to the image/video if you wish to do so.
    6. When you are done, tap the arrow on the right side of your screen to send.
  • How to send documents in a conversation
    To send a document in a conversation:
    1. Tap on the “Messages” tab in the navigation bar at the bottom of your screen.
    2. Locate the relevant conversation/channel and tap on it.
    3. At the bottom of your screen, you will see an attachment icon. Tap on it.
    4. Select the document that you wish to send. (You might need to grant the app permission to access your media. If this is the case, tap “Allow” on the popup box that appears).
    5. You can add a caption to the document if you wish to do so.
    6. When you are done, tap the arrow on the right side of your screen to send
  • How to request app support
    If you are experiencing technical issues with your app you can request app support and one of our team members will be in touch with you within one business day. How to request app support:
    1. Tap the three bars at the top left of your screen. This will open a menu.
    2. Tap the “Request App Support” button located just above the “Sign Out” option.
    3. A new page will open with some of the fields already filled in. In the blank space under your email address, type out your issue/concern with as much detail as possible.
    4. When you are finished, tap the “Submit” button.
    5. You will receive an automated confirmation of your request in your email as well as a link to track your query.
  • How to report a message
    To report a message:
    1. Tap and hold on a member’s name or message.
    2. In the menu that pops up, tap on “Report Message”.
    3. Select up to 3 categories (eg Illegal activity, extremist behaviour, etc) as to why you are reporting the message (this is required).
    4. Add in more reasoning as to why you are reporting the message (this is not required).
    5. Tap on “Report”.
  • How to block a member
    To block a member:
    1. Tap and hold on a member’s name or message.
    2. In the menu that pops up, tap on “Block Member”.
    3. In the window that pops up, tap on “Block Member”.
    4. The member has now been blocked.
    5. To view all the members you have blocked, tap on the three bars in the top left-hand corner of your screen to bring up the user menu.
    6. Tap on “Settings”.
    7. Tap on “My Blocked Members”.
    8. You can now see all the members you have blocked and unblock any members by tapping on “Unblock”.
  • How to use Quick Dial/Dialboard
    This feature is a convenient way for App users to easily dial a contact number, from the app. There will be a list of numbers and corresponding icons identifying the provider with the contact number. Simply tap the icon and the number will appear in your device dialer.
  • How to navigate the Directory
    The Directory is a listing of businesses by categories. This feature may be available in some applications. Use the search bar to easily identify the category you are looking for. Business listings within the selected category will appear with details such as location, contact number with a shortcut to dial, email shortcut, link to website and co-ordinates if available.
  • How to play Video or Audio content
    If there is a YouTube tab or a Media tab in your app, then select/search for the video/audio clip you would like to play and tap the image/play icon to play the video.
  • How to access Facebook/Twitter in the app
    If the app you are navigating on, includes a tab for Facebook/Twitter, you will need to sign into your personal account to access the social media page of the app owner.

Radio

  • How much data is consumed when streaming on the app
    In our app you can enjoy streaming for less than 14MB per hour.
  • Can pal accommodate multiple streams into the app
    Yes, pal can integrate multiple streams into the app. If streaming from multiple locations, then a streaming device might be required for each location, which is plugged into the playout system.
  • Is Training available for the backend tools
    Absolutely! Online training can be arranged with our Customer Success team at a fee. There are also free How to guides available on the Content Management System.
  • Can pal Video stream
    Your YouTube account can be integrated as a tab/screen in the app with the YouTube API credentials. All videos uploaded to the YouTube channel will then also feature in the Video tab via the same feed and can be played from the application.
  • How long does it take for my app to be publicly published in the app stores
    These milestones are an estimate and heavily reliant on timeous receipt of the app build requirements, creation of app store accounts and the store review processes, the latter being outside of our control.
    1. For Android, the app can potentially be available in the Play Store within 3 weeks from date of sharing access of the store accounts.
    2. iOS apps may take a bit longer due to the store application process, but can also be publicly available from the date of sharing the store account access with our team.
    3. Huawei apps are replicated from Android apps. The store review process can take up to two weeks from submission.
  • Where can the public find my app for downloading
    Your application will become discoverable on the Apple App Store, Google Play Store and Huawei App Gallery when ready and published for public consumption. The plan you purchase will determine which stores you intend to make your application available on.
  • Who is responsible for creating developer accounts

    The responsibility for creating developer accounts on each platform (Apple App Store, Google Play Console and Huawei App Gallery) will remain with you. Administrator access is required to be shared with our dev team in order for us to load your application on your own store accounts.

  • Can pal update our existing app instead of building a new app
    Yes, we are able to replace your existing app with the pal app in the form of an app update, which is all the app user would see. The app will remain in your store account and therefore you would retain ownership of the app.
  • How does pal compare to Whatsapp
    Firstly the pal app will belong to you! pal provides more insights, governance, archives, brand identity, community engagement, metrics, revenue opportunity, structure and coherency – all in one application with your branding.
  • Do I need a developer account

    Apple and Google’s user policies do not allow us to publish your application on our accounts. You must therefore have an Apple developer account to publish your application on iOS and/or a Google Play developer account to publish your application on Android. 

  • Are there any other fees

    Developer accounts are charged $99/year for Apple and $25 (one-time payment for lifetime use) for Google. If you have any questions, our team is here to help.

  • Can I customise the app to match my brand’s identity

    Yes, your mobile apps can be customised to align with your brand. You can choose custom branding, set brand colors, and create a unique app icon and home screen.

  • Can pal assist with design services to generate the App Design Assets for my brand
    We can try to assist you at a fee, however, you might already have your company’s logo and other design requirements available in the format you prefer. We recommend that you share the design specifications with your designer and provide them to us in the required dimensions. This is an important requirement for building your application.
  • Is there a limit on push notifications
    There is no hard limit on the number of pushes you can send out. If usage exceeds the allocated limit in the plan you have purchased with us, then the excess will be billed to you.
  • Will we need to hire additional staff to take care of the app
    Not necessarily. Your existing staff can be trained to navigate the content management system and will enjoy full comprehensive support from our Support Services Team. They will also receive guides and tools for easy reference.
  • Can pal assist in monetizing our radio station’s digital presence
    Definitely. pal offers various monetization features such as in-app advertisements, sponsored content, and subscription models to help you generate revenue from your digital audience. There is a minimal loading fee to budget for with these campaigns.
  • Who ultimately owns the data in the app
    Ownership of the data will remain with you. If you cancel with us, the option to download the data is available to you, prior to the app’s decommission.
  • How does pal help in engaging with our listeners
    pal offers interactive messaging, polls, and feedback tools that help you directly engage with your listeners, gather their opinions, and create a more interactive experience.
  • What specific features does pal offer for radio stations
    pal provides a suite of features tailored for radio stations, including live audio streaming, podcast hosting, interactive messaging, audience analytics, and customizable branding options for your station’s app
  • Can we live stream our radio broadcast through the pal app
    Yes, PAL supports live streaming. You can broadcast your radio shows live through the app and your website, allowing listeners to tune in from anywhere.

    These milestones are an estimate and heavily reliant on timeous receipt of the app build requirements, creation of app store accounts and the store review processes, the latter being outside of our control.
    1. For Android, the app can potentially be available in the Play Store within 3 weeks from date of sharing access of the store accounts.
    2. iOS apps may take a bit longer due to the store application process, but can also be publicly available from the date of sharing the store account access with our team.
    3. Huawei apps are replicated from Android apps. The store review process can take up to two weeks from submission.
  • Where can the public find my app for downloading
    Your application will become discoverable on the Apple App Store, Google Play Store and Huawei App Gallery when ready and published for public consumption. The plan you purchase will determine which stores you intend to make your application available on.
  • Who is responsible for creating developer accounts

    The responsibility for creating developer accounts on each platform (Apple App Store, Google Play Console and Huawei App Gallery) will remain with you. Administrator access is required to be shared with our dev team in order for us to load your application on your own store accounts.

    Yes, we are able to replace your existing app with the pal app in the form of an app update, which is all the app user would see. The app will remain in your store account and therefore you would retain ownership of the app.

    Apple and Google’s user policies do not allow us to publish your application on our accounts. You must therefore have an Apple developer account to publish your application on iOS and/or a Google Play developer account to publish your application on Android.

    Developer accounts are charged $99/year for Apple and $25 (one-time payment for lifetime use) for Google. If you have any questions, our team is here to help.

    We can try to assist you at a fee, however, you might already have your company’s logo and other design requirements available in the format you prefer. We recommend that you share the design specifications with your designer and provide them to us in the required dimensions. This is an important requirement for building your application.

    There is no hard limit on the number of pushes you can send out. If usage exceeds the allocated limit in the plan you have purchased with us, then the excess will be billed to you.
  • Will we need to hire additional staff to take care of the app
    Not necessarily. Your existing staff can be trained to navigate the content management system and will enjoy full comprehensive support from our Support Services Team. They will also receive guides and tools for easy reference.
